What Is This City Known For?
Çanakkale is a city where the Battle of Gallipoli (1915)—one of the bloodiest fronts of World War I—took place, and it is commemorated in Turkey every March 18. The ancient city of Troy, located within the province’s borders, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998. The Dardanelles Strait is one of the two straits separating the continents of Europe and Asia.
