Bolu is a province known for its forests, located along the historic caravan and highway route between Istanbul and Ankara. Lake Abant is a destination known throughout the country for nature walks and lake tourism. Bolu is one of the hubs of nature tourism, thanks to the hiking trail around Lake Abant, the forests of Gölcük Nature Park, and the ski slopes of Kartalkaya. As a destination in the Western Black Sea region, it attracts visitors year-round due to its proximity to Istanbul and Ankara.
