A quiet harbor town between two coves
Amasya not to be confused with: İsimleri çok benzer ama farklı şehirler — Amasra bir Karadeniz sahil kasabası, Amasya ise Yeşilırmak kıyısında iç kesimde tarihi bir şehir.
What Is This City Known For?
Amasra is a small Black Sea coastal town known in ancient times as Amastris; it is believed to have taken its name from a Persian princess who ruled the region. It is situated on a peninsula featuring the remains of walls and a castle dating back to the Byzantine and Genoese periods. The town’s two natural coves, known as the Big Harbor and the Small Harbor, give it its distinctive appearance. With its small scale, fishing village atmosphere, and historic character, it is one of the well-known day-trip destinations along the Black Sea coast.
About
Amasra is one of the best-preserved towns on the Black Sea, largely untouched by the effects of tourism. It is a town that has fully preserved its Genoese castle, fishing harbors, and local culture. It is beautiful in every season, though it gets crowded during the summer months. A narrow castle peninsula separating the two coves—Small Harbor and Big Harbor—is the town’s symbol.
The June–September vacation season; May–October is ideal; September–November is less crowded and the weather is nice
