What Is This City Known For?
Sinop is an ancient port city situated on a peninsula at the northernmost point of Turkey’s Black Sea coast. It was an important Greek colony in ancient times and is known as the birthplace of Diogenes of Sinope, the founder of the Cynic school of philosophy. The historic Sinop Castle and the castle building, which was later used as a prison, are among the city’s landmarks.
