The City Where Healing and Legend Meet
What Is This City Known For?
Like Amasya, Manisa is one of the cities to which Ottoman princes were sent for their military training during the Ottoman period. The district of Sart (ancient Sardis) was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Lydia, which is considered the birthplace of coinage. The Mesir Macunu Festival, held annually in the city and listed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List, is a traditional celebration of a healing paste that dates back to the Ottoman period.
About
Manisa, as an important center where Ottoman princes received their military training, boasts both historical and mythological richness thanks to the Mesir Macunu Festival held every April and the legend of the Weeping Rock (Niobe) on Mount Spil.
