What Is This City Known For?
Kars is home to the Ani Ruins, which served as the capital of an important Armenian kingdom during the Middle Ages and were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016. The city center is known for its Russian/Baltic-style architecture with an unusual grid layout for Turkey, dating back to the period of Russian rule between 1878 and 1918. Kars cheese is a well-known variety throughout the country.
